The RIP IV challenge is indeed here and after some consideration I have come up with the following list from which to select my four books for Peril the First. I’m also going to try to participate in Short Story Sunday if I can.
So the list is:
- The Lamplighter by Anthony O’Neill
- something by Stephen King – either Duma Key, Cell, Just After Sunset, or even a re-read of ‘Salem’s Lot in this rather lovely edition
- Handling the Undead by John Ajvide Lindqvist
- 20th Century Ghosts by Joe Hill
- The Mark of the Beast by Rudyard Kipling
- Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
- Come Closer by Sara Gran
- Drood by Dan Simmons (despite the mixed reviews)
So that looks like a reasonable selection, but what of the other challenges I’ve been involved in? Well I still have good intentions for the 42 Challenge and the Art History Reading Challenge, the 100 Shots of Short is looking a bit peaky, but I am definitely going to have to throw in the towel when it comes to the Non-Fiction Five Challenge – that’s just not going to happen this year.

So great to have you along Bride! I too am falling behind on the few challenges I am involved in. I’ve done 16 things for the 42 Challenge and only read one of six books for the What’s in a Name Challenge. I know I won’t complete all of 42, but I hope to complete the other and will definitely complete the Japanese Literature Challenge 3.

I know, I have Drood on my list of possibles….I’m trying to narrow the list down before presenting it! 20 books!! The Lamplighter is very interesting, I read it two years ago – it’s one of the first reviews I ever did, I think. good choices, bride!
And as for challenges – I might not make 5 non-fiction, but i am trying to get 3 done!! And I’m not giving up hope on my others – in fact I joined a new one, Jeane over at Dog Ear Diary. I’m hopeless, I know!
And you know, if you sat and watched say a whole season of Dr Who, you could easily make your 42 things sci fi!!! LOL

I had thought of the Dr Who solution but don’t know which one to watch (sadly I have them all). I must go and look for your review of The Lamplighter, which I’ve had for absolutely ages.

I just saw a review of Gillian Flynn’s new book in EW – Entertainment Weekly(my slum magazine reading!) and I really have to read her first one, Sharp Objects. I wonder if my library has it?…..and I’m going to read Duma Key, I think. I want a good Stephen King scare! too bad we couldn’t get together and read the books over hot chocolate one fall evening!!

I like the hot chocolate idea (I love hot chocolate) and was thinking we could do it virtualy, but my fall evenings must be your fall mornings so not sure how that would work…. Shame really.

Hi! New fan of your blog!
Gillian Flynn is my new favorite author. I LOVED both her books. ‘salem’s Lot is one of my favorites. I just read Heart Shaped Box by Joe Hill… was pleasantly surprised. Great list!
